We were gifted a miscellaneous batch of duck eggs from a friends friend's homestead. We are completely new to ducks, so we've googled a ton. Of the 8 ducks that hatched, we know we have 1 Pekin and 1 Cayuga. As for the others...

We are at about 15 weeks.

1. We have one that is maybe a Silver Appleyard? It looks like a Mallard, but already 4 lbs, so past the Mallard weight. When it was a duckling, it had the black mohawk, black stripe down the back and a sort of black fuzzy look around the edges of the entire yellow body.

2. We think maybe this one is a blend because she seems to have the brown penciling you'd see on a female Mallard and the blue stripe on the wing (not visible in this picture), but she has always had a darker head and has started to become a bit darker overall. She is now 3+ lbs. At birth she was all black and looked like our Cayuga, almost couldn't tell them apart, but she had the slightest brown hue to her color. It was only noticeable when standing together with our Cayuga duckling (full black).

3. We have 2 of these. One boy and and one girl. The boy has a stronger green on the head than the girl and the girl has slightly more white on the chest. Otherwise they look the same. Maybe a blend of Cayuga and something else?

4 and 5 both seem to be of the same breed as well, but they look just slightly different. As ducklings, they both looked similar with the yellow and gray patches all over.

4. Is the girl, our smallest duck. She has a tall neck when she stretches, like she is in this picture, but otherwise she doesn't look overly tall like a Runner. But we are thinking she is at least part runner? We know that the homestead they came from has some fawn runners.

5. Is the boy that matches #4. He isn't quit as tall and has darker gray. (not a great picture, but this was the best I could manage with this guy).

The last picture is one that was sent to me of the parent ducks from the homestead. I don't know if it's all the possible parent ducks.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance!!!!

Edit: I added Duckling pictures of #1 and a picture of the duck we think is a Cayuga just to confirm, #6

1 is a rouen (drake)
2 is a black runner (maybe hen)
3 is a black swedish (drake)
4 is a runner mix (probably drake)
5 is a runner mix (drake)

Thanks for replying, we need all the help we can get!

I'm so thrown off by a couple of things. The reason we didn't think our #1 is a Rouen is based on the duckling images with it's mohawk and black streak. That seems to match the images we find of Silver Appleyard ducklings. What have we missed in the ID process on this one?

I was surprised to see your thought of #2 as a black runner because in person, she doesn't seem to stand very vertical anymore, although as a duckling, we did think both the black ducks were black runners. They both changed so much though, we figured we were wrong back in the beginning. #2 has the pretty blue stripe on the wing that the Mallard, Rouen, Appleyard, and others seem to have.

Based on my surprise on your thoughts on our #2, I thought I'd go ahead and add a picture of our "cayuga", #6, because maybe we are completely wrong there too.

Thank you for your input.
