Get those cameras out and scan those plans you wrote on the back of your chick starter receipt. Throw them together with a great write up and you could be a winner! (Okay... everyone on BYC is a winner... You'd just be a coop-article contest winner!)

Contest Details:

This is a contest to see who can create the best coop/run article for BYC. We define the "best article" to mean pages with the most information, pictures, plans, details, etc. that will be very helpful to others who want to build a coop and/or run. We don't care if your coop was made out of recycled pallets and was made in 2 days, or if it was made out of the highest-grade materials, took 5 months, and is a scale model of the Taj Mahal. We want helpful and informative coop articles!

TO ENTER THE CONTEST:
  1. Navigate to the "Chicken Coops" section of the site.
  2. Click on the add article 2020-07-09 14_10_20-Chicken Coops _ BackYard Chickens - Learn How to Raise Chickens.png button
  3. Create a very helpful article with lots of pictures and information.
  4. Reply to this thread with a link to the coop article that you created.
  5. Only pages created here on BYC will be accepted. No threads or personal/off-site blog posts, etc.
  6. Have Fun!

Things to include in your article:
  • Start with a finished coop/run picture at the *top* of your article.
  • A write-up of how you built your coop/run. Include any information you think would be helpful to other people who may want to build something similar.
  • If you have them, include designs & plans you used to build your coop/run.
  • Pictures of your coop/run as it was being constructed.
  • Pictures of your completed coop/run.
  • A list of things you want to change or add to your coop/run.
  • Additional information about what you learned, what you'd do differently the next time, and any other tips for potential coop builders.
To increase your chances of winning the contest, make sure your article has as many of the elements above, in as much detail as possible! Here are some additional hints to help you win the contest:
  • Follow the format of some of the existing chicken coops.
  • The more details and pictures the better!
  • Plans plans plans. Very few coop designs have plans available. If you post plans (rough or detailed) of your coop you'll get bonus points for sure!
  • Pictures - We all love lots of big beautiful and helpful pictures!
  • Remember, this is a contest for the most helpful coop build page and not the best-looking coop.

IMPORTANT RULES:
  • ALL pictures MUST be uploaded to BYC and not hosted on other image sites, personal websites, etc.
  • Articles submitted to our previous contests are not eligible for this contest.
  • *All* pictures need to have been taken by you.
  • ALL pictures MUST be uploaded to BYC and not hosted on other image sites, personal websites, etc.
  • Only articles created here on BYC will be accepted. No threads or personal/off-site blog posts, etc.

The "Mod" Coop

The "Mod" Coop

The overall size is 3’ wide by 18’ long by 6’ tall. The coop itself is 3’x 6’x 4’ and raised 19” off the ground. Made to house 3-6 chickens. My coop building adventure begins here in the Pacific Northwest, a few miles west of Portland, Oregon. Many years ago I owned horses and rented a...
The Chick Inn

The Chick Inn

Design Since my wife and I moved into our fixer home we knew we wanted chickens but building a chicken coop ended up a ways down the initial priority list of projects. As far as a coop design, I had a general idea of what I wanted out of a coop but it wasn’t until I found BackYardChickens.com...
Our Big Island Coop

Our Big Island Coop

I consider this coop to be one that is medium size. At 64 square feet, its 8' x 8' foot print is small enough for most back yards but large enough for 16 hens. (16 birds*4 square feet coop space per bird= 64 square feet total). We are putting it into a pen that is 20' x 20' so this 400 square...

Coop Construction January 29, 2015 by beriel79 Our chicken coop began its life as an old, sad, playhouse that we considered demolishing several times. When we decided to get chickens I began researching coop construction and fell in love with the idea of having an adorable and functional...

We're going to put the roof and wire onto the Open Air Chicken Palace tomorrow -- or, at least, as much as DH, our sons, my sister, her husband, and I can managed before it gets too blistering hot.

I've been documenting the build so I will be able to write it up.
Awesome! I look forward to seeing your entry!

I have a Omlet walk-in chicken run, and a coop my dad built. We are buying an extension for our run. Of course for chicken math reasons! 😂
