Who laid this tiny egg?

There was a teeny tiny egg in the coop this morning! All our birds are young and we only have one bird, an Ameraucana, who’s been laying for about a week. Her first egg was 33 grams and her third/most recent is 41g.
The tiny egg is 9 grams!!! It’s smaller than a quail egg!

This egg is brown so the likely suspects are a Faverolles hatched December 18 (23 weeks), a Belgian D’uccle hatched March 1 (13 weeks), or a Swedish Flower Hen hatched March 1.

Can bigger birds lay tiny eggs when they’re getting started? A friend of mine said that there’s something called a “wind egg”.

Who done it?!

It could be anyone who laid that egg! I call those fart eggs!

I’m impartial to “cock eggs”. I read a little about the history and people used to think that roosters laid them! They also thought it could hatch a cockatrice! I want a monster chicken-lizard!

We don’t know anything about her history unfortunately. We had a bad hatch with only one chick and found someone online selling chicks that were only a day younger. All different breeds, one was our salmon Faverolles, the others were an Ameraucana, a double silver laced Barnevelder, and a lavender Orpington who sadly passed away.


Are you looking for Faverolles for yourself? We only have one but she’s one of our favourites. Cuddly and sweet but also very active and silly.

Yes! I love Faverolles, I ordered 4 from Murray McMurray hatchery but their salmon faverolles were infected by avian influenza

Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you had them separate from any other birds. Did any survive?

We live in Canada so options might be different depending on where you live. Ours was hatched in December, before this strain of avian influenza hit North America. I believe I saw several people online selling chicks or hatching eggs earlier in the year too, not sure about adult birds.

Looking at Murray McMurray’s website it looks like they had an outbreak in one of their barns but they got it under control.

Mine never shipped because of their barn being infected, so I didn't get the salmon faverolles chicks.(Which is much better than getting them with avian influenza!)

I think I will next spring.

Names for them:

Rooster eggs, fairy eggs, (usually called for seramas, fairy eggs) fart eggs, tiny eggs, mini eggs, dwarf eggs, wind eggs, witch eggs.

Thank goodness! What a nightmare that would’ve been.

Our girl just laid her first (normal) egg this morning! She she doesn’t care for the boys but they certainly like her.
If you want to come up to Alberta Canada you’re welcome to her half Faverolles eggs!
I’m mostly kidding but I am honestly curious what her chicks would look like.
I mean just look at this handsome EE rooster!

Our little D’uccle bantam. She’s doing her best impression of a raisin bun in hopes he’ll show off somewhere else.

He tried to mount her once but I don’t think his butt could reach while holding her head so he gave up and I haven’t seen him try since.
She’s the only really tiny girl so it’s not really worth the time figuring out how to make it work.
