Sooo, I have a weird chicken. No doubt the weirdest chicken I have ever seen. She has never been over all healthy. She kind of sneezes but she has done that for a while. Her first rooster accidentally cut her back with his spurs so I moved her to my smaller flock that has one silkie rooster, two ducks and her. She just stopped laying eggs a few months ago. No reason just stopped. She eats the same food as all my other laying hens and my duck who lays eggs as well. And today my weird hen started crowing. Ya that is not right. She does it so often to! My roosters crow back and forth and now she is "Crowing." with them. She crows at them, she crows at me, she crows when no one is around, she crows to show off to my silkie rooster etc. Does anyone have an explanation for my crowing, non egg laying EE hen?

I actually read something to this effect on numerous websites.
"Certain medical conditions—such as an ovarian cyst, tumor or diseased adrenal gland—can cause a chicken's left ovary to regress. In the absence of a functional left ovary, the dormant right sex organ may begin to grow, according to Mike Hulet, an associate professor at Penn State University's department of poultry science.
"If the activated right gonad is an ovotestis or testes, it will begin secreting androgens," Hulet told Life's Little Mysteries. Androgens are the class of hormones that are largely responsible for male characteristics and are normally secreted by the testes. "The production of androgen would cause the hen to undergo behavioral changes and make it act more like a rooster."
The hen does not completely change into a rooster, however. This transition is limited to making the bird phenotypically male, meaning that although the hen will develop physical characteristics that will make her look male, she will remain genetically female. So while the hen will no longer lay eggs, she won't be fathering any offspring, either."

Did you recently lose a rooster? So, lucky you-you have a transvestite chicken.

Some hens just crow. I have one that started after I separated her to break her broodiness, even though she still lays eggs. Her sister that's also with her and being broken doesn't crow, but tidbits just like my males. The last sister doesn't crow or tidbit, but her comb grew and got redder. All are hens that have resumed egg laying, but they all have adapted a funny trait
