The "Ask Anything" to Nicalandia Thread

Thinking about turning my OEGBs into their standard sized counterpart. What would be the best route to go? I could use Malay, Red JungleFowl hybrids, Pure Red JungleFowl, or Black Sumatra(Extra Fancy). Which of the birds listed would be best to use for resizing a Bantam?

    What breed is this?

The color in the breast feathers makes me think Black Sex-link. But full body, standing profile pictures are helpful.

    Scaly leg mites?

Yes, there's gonna be raw spots, my hen had a few under her dead scales. It'll heal, & regrow scales when treatment is complete.

    23rd day eggs havent hatched.

I'd give them till day 25 too be 100% sure they're not gonna make it. If you have an incubator for emergency hatching(Abandoned eggs), you can finish them up, or at least attempt too.

    23rd day eggs havent hatched.

We recommend not to Water Candle/Float test the eggs, since chicks can drown if there's a crack in the shell.

    Scaly leg mites?

I treated mine with a routine 10 minute leg soaking in warm soapy water, then I scrubbed off as much dead skin, & scales as possible on the first go. Sometimes picking is necessary for some of the dead stuff in order to get it off. Second step was petroleum Jelly to smother the legs. I did...

    Dark Brahma genders

Yep it does make things abit easier when it comes to sexing. Though both male, & female Red JungleFowl have Salmon breasts, before the males actually start getting black in the breast feathers.

    Rescued, Feral kitten

The maggots ate her from the inside out, I had to put her down. Her breathing wasn't bad really, she was losing a battle due to fly strike. Must be the reason she was so tame, didn't put up a fight. She knew she was dying.

How Do You Decide It's Time to Euthanize Pet Chickens?

I put birds down that are in visible pain, whether it's from an injury like getting trampled by a Turkey, & they don't get better with the care you give them. Something that the chicken just can't recover from, like cancer. Pet chickens I keep, & let die of old age, but will put down if...

    Satin silkie..?

A true Satin has all the Silkie traits, except the Silkied feathers. So, Crest, Walnut comb, 5 toes, Black Skin, Blue Earlobes, Beard, & Feathered legs. She lacks the Black Skin, & 5 toes, so she's either a project bird, or just a mixed breed. (Note: Pure Silkies can occasionally have Single...

    Dark Brahma genders

Looks like Light Brahma X Dark Brahma. One of mixed color. So, the mixing theory is correct, but doesn't correlate to the pure Dark/Silver Penciled coloration.

    Dark Brahma genders

Nope, not female. Dark Brahma coloration is sexually dimorphic, with males being Black, & Females Pencilled.

    Rescued, Feral kitten

I do wanna know, what type of maggots would eat a kitten alive, from the inside out within hours? I do wish I could've save that little cutie.
