Any ideas on age/breed?

Found yellow chick with black stripe literally sitting in the highway shoulder alone. (This is Hawai’i, lots of random wild chickens about, but no mama or any other chickens were anywhere near). Tan chicken was found about the same time by another person being attacked by other chickens downtown, no other chicks or obvious mama nearby, maybe a few days older than mine? I took that one on so they can be buddies, and it has worked out so well. Both healthy, bonded to each other, very sweet.

The Hawai’i bird rescue guessed about a week old when I found the striped one, I’ve had it (hopefully a her!!) a week now, do they look to be 2ish weeks old?

Tan-ish chick is definitely going to be typical ‘wild’ Hawai’i chicken, I think, based on the others around when she was found and on its (her?) coloring. (Think Heihei from Moana for the males, generic brown feathers for females).

But yellow striped back chick is definitely different, a bit more petite and less ‘chunky’ and coloring is at least a mix with something else. Does it look like any particular breed at this point?

And any guesses on sex? (I know it’s super early!)

Both chicks look to be more or less 2 weeks old to me! It's too early to be able to sex them, take some updated photos once they are around 6 weeks old. Given where they came from, they are probably mixes.

What a lovely rescue story for these two, thanks for taking them in!
Hoping the tan one’s coloring on the feathers coming in leans female at least! (But I know it’s way too early!). There are definitely some mixed chickens in the general area where my ‘road’ chick was found, but it’s definitely not full ‘wild’. Will see if I can get some pics of adults in that area when I drive by (not far from my house!).

‘Road’ chick was literally a tiny yellow fuzzy blob right in the middle of the shoulder, not moving, barely noticed it out of the corner of my eye as I passed. Had to circle back around and wait for traffic to clear, but sure enough, it was a chick just sitting there looking up at me, lol. Was fine and healthy, just scared to death, poor thing—glad it didn’t wander into road! No other chickens anywhere to be seen in that moment, I did look around! But now baby is very spoiled and has a friend, I have ducks already and have had chicks before, so they lucked out. 😉

Hawaii? Its a mutt chicken lol. I've never been but I've heard about the infamous wild island chickens that have no natural predators and so are planning on taking over the world....if they can ever get hold of a boat.... 😆
🤣. You’re not wrong! LOL. But years ago the only huge chicken population was on Kaua’i where I grew up, because no mongoose. (All the other islands have mongoose.). But roughly 5-10 years ago or so chickens just kind of exploded everywhere, even here on the Big Island where I am now. Did the mongoose population go down? (I still see them, but maybe not as many?). Did chickens just win the battle and take over? Who knows? LOL 🤷🏻‍♀️

Would I be a weirdo if I went to Hawaii just to see the chickens? Maybe a day trip for a volcano but mostly just hanging out with chickens on a beach...?

Come on over! The volcano is amazing (I live pretty close by but not in lava range!) and the chickens are adorable.😉🐓 But Kaua’i is the capital of chicken population, especially up in Koke’e/Waimea Canyon.
