Hello! This is a place to post pictures/talk about what you and your flock have done today.

I was on a zoom call earlier and Iris, my rooster, decided to stand behind me and crow repeatedly. Thankfully I was on mute, but it was still annoying. They couldn’t see him, but they could see me trying to make him quiet, which was a little embarrassing.
Here’s a pic of my boy with some mini roses.

What about you guys? Have you done anything interesting with your flock today?

my wyandotte cockerel likes to live on the wild side. i saw him eat stinging nettle throughout today. maybe he likes spicy food lol. he even photobombed a picture i took of the chickens with his nettle obsession, here he is enjoying his favorite snack.

They sell stinging nettle at our farmers market. I can’t believe people actually eat that. I can’t even touch it.

Yeah, the guy said they do. Crazy, right!? I need to look it up. Maybe it goes into soup or something?:idunno I think you could probably make tea with it, but stinging nettle stew doesn’t sound good for your digestion. 😝

:lau It’s making my throat feel weird just thinking about it.

I briefly looked it up. Apparently it has medicinal properties.

My big coop was where my turkey and my last remaining show chicken from last year lived. My small scoop was where my new birds and ducks were I switched them since the littles were moving to far from the coop the other turkey and chicken free range. well the bigs weren’t happy they had to move they stood by their old house all day. now I have my turkey ducks and big chicken in with all of my new birds(Brahmas, lavender Orpingtons, dark blue laced red wayandottes, speckled Sussex, and Ameraucanas) 😂here is a pair I’m planning on breeding can anyone guess the color results??

It's very good for medicine when steamed to remove the sting, and provides calcium for chickens. usually i would collect it and let it dry, then mix it in their feed. once it is wilted there is no sting. i'm surprised he likes to eat it fresh.
one study shows it lowers mortality in broiler chickens from pulmonary hypertension due to its antioxidant effect. another study says it improves the quality of eggs along with immune system function in layer hens. however, other studies have found no effect on immune system function in broilers.
