As some of you know I lost Cosmos and Daffodil yesterday. Daffodil was one of my Saxony hens and Cosmos was my WH drake.
They got attacked by something last night right before dark. I’m guessing it was a bald eagle because we had one flying around a few days ago and whatever attacked them was pretty big. It had dragged the Saxony’s out of the pond onto the lawn and my drake was still in the pond floating among the weeds on the side. The drake only had a little wound on him but I guess it was enough to kill him, the duck was more pulled apart and bloody.
My other ducks are fine. They were really scared and were a little hesitant to come up out of the water yesterday when I called them but they seemed fine. Today I put them in the covered chicken run and they are doing good, you can tell they miss their friends though.
I put Cosmos and Daffodil out back behind the shed where Posy, one of my WH that I lost earlier this spring is.
Cosmos was my only drake. He was the best drake ever, he always took care of his girls so well. He watched over them and was very protective of them. If I picked one up he would attack me because he thought I was going to hurt her. He even tried attacking a cow once because it was checking out one of his girls. He didn't like when I got near him or his girls, he always chased me as soon as I turned around. Last year he even broke his wing fighting a rooster that was chasing Posy (the WH I lost this spring).
To be perfectly honest I never could tell my saxony's apart
I am almost positive it was Daffodil who I lost though because she was always a little lighter than the other Saxony ducks. Also, she bumble foot a while ago and you could kind of tell where the bumble was from the color of the skin on the bottom of her foot. SO I think it was Daffodil...these pictures I am also pretty sure are her. If these aren't you I'm sorry Daffy
