Thanks for the pics of the coop. Great works.:caf:drool
But I don’t grasp what you’re plans are with the mesh ? Is it to make a run attached to the coop? How can 90 cm be enough?
:clapMissing a fabulous 8th principle if you go camping with a group or family in the wild. : take a pig with you...
We expect high temps too. Even 38C next Tuesday. Only one day though.
Must be hard to travel with such a temperature. Or do you have airco on the bus when its hot?
And can’t you give /sell some eggs to you’re DD? Or neighbours? Such a waste to give them to the chickens.
In theory yes. Only the flush in French toilets flow are sometimes more like fountains (⛲️💩).
And using paper in a cold climate without the luxury of having a warm bathroom is not that strange. Nowadays more people start to use a toilet fountain or bidet up north too.
The old French ‘hole-in-the-ground’ toilets are even better/ more hygenic than some of the Greek toilets where you use a bin for the toilet paper (because the drain is too narrow for toilet paper 🧻).
:hit
One of my bantam RIRs is missing since yesterday evening. The chickens were free ranging but didn’t go far. Probably some kind of invisible predator. Or a strange and weird cat. No signs of being sick and she laid a beautiful light brown egg that same day.
We couldn’t find her nor any...
It’s too early to tell what the effects are because there aren’t any researches published yet about plastic micro particles and damage to human health.
This is a part of an article in a quality (NRC) newspaper in the Netherlands. Translated with Google:
“The toxicology of particles works...
Sorry to bring you this awful news. There are plastic particles in our meat and milk. The Netherlands exports a lot of milk and meat all over Europe and even further. So it’s very well possible you eat or drink it too...
Congratulation's Shadrach!
So many views!
Take the credits, you earn them!
This thread is so much more than some stories and lessons about rescues. Of course there are many readers who love to learn from someone with tons of experience. I especially love the lessons about chicken...

Wow, thats a lot if eggs shad! 🥚
And can I ask a cat question. 🐈?
My chickens always make a typical and recognisable sound if they spot a cat. Completely different than the egg song or the ‘I want feed’ begging.
The chickens often spot a cat before I do. So if I hear them making this sound I...
We had lots of clover in the lawn/grass field before we had chickens. One day it was gone. I don’t know how many years it took to vanish.
My experience is that all yummy plants for chickens disappeared. What remains are the very strong plants, grasses and herbs. And plants that are not tasteful...
This is probably the main reason I let a broody sit if I have room for more chickens.
Other pro’s. :
Easy
No need of a heat lamp
I like to do things natural if convenient
😍 to see proud broodies
And you are right that it’s better to let the older hen sit. Bc if my senior hen sees my younger...
@ManueB My Dutch tend to go broody from early spring till halfway summer. It’s a bit like the natural birds do. But because humans have been breeding with chickens for the most peculiar reasons, some chicken breeds or individuals don’t go broody at all. Like the laying hybrids. They are bred to...
I do interfere because i believe it’s unnatural to let a hen sit on unfertilised eggs for nothing. And I don’t want more chicks (buying fertilised eggs) all the time a hen is broody.
Normally a broody hen quits after 2-7 days if I ‘kick’ her off the nest/ take away all eggs / make it...
:lauI love this social, unreliable, unexpected and idiotic behavior of bantams.
Some bantams are not the broody types. I had 2 Naine de Tournaisis that never went broody. They lay quit well. One laid in winter as well. But they both didn't live long. 😢
This breed is quit rare, even in...
