Seafaring chickens! I wonder how well they laid while on a rocking boat. I guess they got used to it?

@Shadrach I’m so delighted that they decided the chickens deserved better food and a better coop rather than getting a shed. He’s a beautiful rooster! Yup. Venomous snakes on the other hand, gotta watch out for those! Though I’ve heard rattlesnake is rather tasty, and definitely not poisonous.

Aww, I love that third one! Cute little thing, how is it doing?

I agree with this. If a chicken is struggling, they need balanced nutrition and the best thing is pellets. Scrambled eggs would be a second choice if you can’t get her to eat the pellets, but it would be better to make a porridge with the chicken food and see if she’ll eat that first.

I loved this picture too! It was like he was saying, “Come on, you can’t all fit in there and get a proper bath!”

Well isn’t she perky looking! Definitely not a grumpy hormonal broody look!

When it rains, it pours sometimes. It’s good that you caught it early though. It will save her a lot of discomfort to have it treated right away. Still, I’m sorry you’ve got so much chicken drama right now. That’s disappointing. A lot of people on here say first time broody hens are a bit of a...

One of my sisters lived in Florida and I went to visit her a few times. On one memorable occasion, we were out for a walk with our kids when we decided to pass by the small lake by their apartment buildings. My sister told us to keep a close eye on all the kids because an alligator had been seen...

Yay! Newly named chicken! If you have a crocodile for a guardian, you won’t have to worry about anything coming around after a bit. Including the chickens. 🙃

RIP Cloud. It’s hard when one you like dies. It’s also unfortunate that Matilda isn’t comfortable, do you have any idea what could be the cause of it? It seems unusual to me that her eggs are looking well when she is not.

Same here, but such is life in suburbia. My husband didn’t love the crowing either and was very happy when I ‘finally’ decided it was time to cull the cockerel. To his credit, he wasn’t pushy about it. He was mostly just concerned about bothering the neighbors but he also sleeps very...

I wish I was allowed a rooster, but where I live (and the place I am moving to at the end of the month) roosters are banned. Like @Perris, my first experience with a young cockerel resulted in eventually culling him. I think that, had circumstances been different, he would have become a nice...

She’s a Mosaic rooster over a gold laced Wyandotte. 😁 She and Desdemona were named from Shakespeare.

I’m going to have to side with the Brits and Aussies and Kiwis here. We Americans haven’t spoken the same language for years, to quote from My Fair Lady. 😆 Though I’m sure that Aussies and Kiwis have their share of divergent language that has happened over time as well. Where does Canada fall on...

It may be the lighting, I think. Goldilocks is a shade lighter and has more white on her feathers than Ginger. Grumpy broodies make me smile. When Caramel went broody last year she would furiously dust bathe like that as well. I had to chuckle at the rest of your flock standing off to the side...

Overdue off topic tax 1-2. Ginger loves the compost piles and standing in the pallet frame. She even used them to jump the fence and go on an adventure in the neighbor’s yard last week. That one escapade seems to have quenched her wanderlust for now, as she hasn’t done it since. 3. Goldilocks...

My father in law is a master at this. He loves talking to people just to see the way they think. He doesn’t talk much, just asks questions. Sometimes people accuse him of gaslighting but he doesn’t do it with any ill intent, he just likes seeing how people think and how their life experiences...

I’m not sure how it is elsewhere, but around here, it seems like society in general has no desire to listen to differing opinions because they don’t agree with that opinion. Or simply have no desire to even spend time with someone who thinks differently than them. You can have a civil...
