Oh, there are plenty of BD videos of the robots doing the skills they are "supposed" to be doing, as per the organization's vision. Yet, they keep putting out these fun videos as well, that show the creative side of coding. Those coders had to come up with the moves they wanted to code, to get...

The inner joy apparent in the video is absolutely from the programers themselves, not the robots. This is a programmed sequence. This video makes me smile every time because to me, it is a bunch of geeks using the robots as an artistic medium to express themselves, as any artist does in other...

I agree, but I could say I like tigers but that wouldn't justify me having them. ;) I was concerned that I didn't have enough land to provide a trio of chickens with an adequately interesting environment. They are not like my dogs which get to go with me on all sorts of wonderful...

Ahem... native to Africa. Check out the debate around the Pleistocene Megafauna extinction. Is it coincidence that where Homo Sapiens went as they left Africa, megafauna extinction followed? Maybe, maybe not... it is being debated. Note that there were still Wooly Mammoths in Siberia during...

Thank you for taking the time to answer so thoroughly, I appreciate it. Looks like I have the same keeping method as your sister, albeit with what looks like a smaller yard, but also a smaller number of chickens. I was seriously questioning whether I should get new pullets. I fully admit I...

See, I thought that BYC would be entirely people keeping backyard chickens, because, you know, the name of the site. ;) I was astonished that people with 10+ acres were here and not on a homesteader's site instead! Shad, what would you say is the best way to keep chickens for those of us with...

You are not even using cordless, battery operated tools? This is like building a coop 200 years ago! Much respect to you Shad, but surely someone has modern tools you can borrow? I have similar tools I inherited from my grandfather, and I understand wanting to use such beautiful tools...

How about Friday? As in "My Girl Friday." It looks like a lot of the Ex Batts have missing feathers on front of their necks, not on the back of their neck like you'd expect from Henry's attentions. That used to be how I picked out Lima from the rest. Is there a reason they lose feathers there?

I have been searching, since I am looking for pullets this summer, and have only found a handful of breeders in the US. I think the differences you are seeing is more "hatchery quality" verses "breeder quality." The Australorps I saw at the poultry show and in pictures on breeders' websites...

I love that little chicken! That is Pebble, isn't it? I wish we had bantam Australorps here. She is exactly what I am looking for this time around. I'll probably end up with bantam orpingtons. Speaking of crazy Australian seas and the crazy Australians who sail them, I am sure you heard...

 Fair enough! I had a feeling you'd say that. I've been working on something I think you'll like, to pay my taxes the only way I currently can. Meh. That probably wasn't even the third worst blow I've been in at sea. It was a gale, but it helps to have been on a boat that was built...

Some of the smaller ones did. But even the big oceanic racers had to reduce sail so they wouldn't broach (we saw some broaches). We had up every stitch of canvas we could carry, though at one point we blew out our mizzen staysail (which we repaired and re-hoisted on the fly). As we...

This is not related to chickens at all, and I still don't have my new chickens yet to pay tax! I am working on it, though. Got the shade house area and the old coop cleared out ready to build the new one. Will be looking for three bantam pullets this summer. I am a licensed captain (and...

Try living on a sailboat! When all you have is 400 gallons of fresh water to get a six person crew across the Pacific from Panama to Tahiti, fresh water is only for drinking and cooking! Granted, we did take long hot showers... it was just salt water, with a quick fresh water rinse at the end.

These type of people are the best of us humans; people who just genuinely like other people (not just putting on the appearance of liking people). As a teacher, I aspire to this especially on my very diverse campus, but it can be difficult. Sometimes I feel I really do like my dogs better than...

Huh. I had to look up "beak guards" and "gloves" for roosters. Pretty much a muzzle for a chicken! Shad, I learn something new from you almost daily! I am sure such sparring is great for building muscle and conditioning a cock. Cock fighting is illegal here, but I wonder if there is a form...

I think you are thinking of TUF-Foot, or Pad-Tough. I was part of a backpacking group who hiked the Sierras with our dogs and many used one of those products. I was initially ribbed about my breed choice, but my little Sheltie out-hiked all those Labs and Aussies and carried her own pack, too...
