Hello all!

We incubated 6 eggs and three of them were duds at day 10, but we waited till day 14 to make sure before throwing them out. Of the remaining three, one was added in a week late (don't ask) so it's still developing nicely, one has hatched, and the last one..... well that's my question. It's day 22 and we've looked for 4 things:
1) Pips, sound, and movement? -none.
2) Candling?- large air sac with cloudy outline
3) Float test? Floats low. Doesn't sink. But no movement.
4) Warmth? It's still warm (going off of how the three duds felt)

Thoughts? We will keep it until day 25 regardless. But I was looking for any hope I could find.

The one chick that hatched is lonely. We gave it a stuffed animal that it seems to like. It took 31hours for it to fully zip out after the initial pip, which was on the small side of the egg and under it! We thought it was stuck for sure. No progress at all for 28 hours after the first pip and a little struggle that knocked off a few small pieces in a counter clockwise direction. Just sat there breathing and peeping. Finally started moving again, but clockwise this time and hatched perfectly fine.

This has been a very weird incubation.

Float testing probably killed it if it was alive. Was it moving when you candled it? Was there a shadow in the air cell? If so you may need to make a safety hole.

To have a really good hatch, takes practice. If it is your first hatch, I suggest buying hatching eggs from close by, or using your own eggs. And really get to know your incubator.
A candled egg at day 18 will look like this...

When a light is shone at the large end, the line where the air cell should be dark, with no light showing through or just a bit with veins, and if you candle the pointed end, it should be dark (by day 16).
It can take 12-24 hrs to zip after a pip or maybe longer. It is best not to help. Usually helping results in an unhealed bellybutton with contents on the outside, and weak legs.

As it turned out, it was dead. It had been dead for a while. We think it died during lock down.
