HELP!
I'm extremely worried, my call duck egg, Newt, starting to internally pip and I candled him at 10pm (currently midnight here) and he was still pushing through the membrane/trying to internally pip.
I went to talk to him around 11:30pm and I heard a crack noise but I didn't see anything and just now I went to check on him before I went to bed and I saw a crack at the wrong end!
The crack isn't a hole so he's not getting any air and I'm very worried because it's my first time hatching and I'm very attached to this little one!
How long do I wait until I assist? What do I do exactly? I have tons of articles and videos pulled up on assisting ducks/call ducks hatching but not much on pipping at the wrong end. I think he pipped on the wrong end since he couldn't seem to get through to the air cell.
Please, help, I'm extremely worried and I don't want to lose him.

I candled him again and he seemed to turn back around on the right side and is trying again there, it doesn't seem to be extremely active like he used to be, hes probably tired from moving around so I'm going to leave him alone for a bit.
I dunno if my head was playing tricks on me but I thought I heard peeping, I doubt it because he'd need air and I haven't seen his beak/bill in the air cell, only pipping at it.

A pip at the wrong end is to be treated like an internal pip. If you are *very* careful you can remove a little shell around the crack, just enough so that it can breathe, then wait at least 24 hours before you do anything else.

Hes trying to pip through the membrane where the air cell is now. Should I still remove some of the shell around the crack?

We have hatched ducklings before, 2 out of 6 piped on the wrong side.
I would not take it out of the incubator anymore unless you really need to. Shrink wrapped birds are harder to deal with than ducks piped on the wrong end
Normally if they start peeping it is very loud
