I recently bought purina game bird layer feed and realized it says "Do not feed to male birds". I only have a pair of quail, 1 male and female, do I need to separate them to have the female eat the layer feed, I am trying to get hatching eggs.

Layer feed is fine for adult quail but with only 1 female, you may need to watch for overbreeding injury ideal ratio is 1 male to 5 females

Layer feed has a higher calcium content. The males don't need it. I feed a 20% protein & put the calcium on the side. Purina Flock Raiser, the calcium is crushes egg shells & crushes oyster shell.

The Layer feed is just fine for both. That is what I give mine and have had no problems with it. Purina needs to remove that from the label.
