Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

Sorry if it came off like I was trying to argue, it was not my intention. You can try the bread. I have just never done it that way, so I am not the best person to recommend an alternative method.

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

0.4ml two times a day is correct. I really can't recommend on how to do other methods, because I always give drugs orally. Maybe @Miss Lydia has some suggestions on that. Administering orally is really the only way to ensure the correct dosage, which is why I always do it that way. I have...

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

The salve was nitrofurazone. I am pretty sure my girl died of the initial infection which never went away. But bad antibiotic choices and the salve from a vet not as familiar with birds and the bumblefoot was far worse than yours led to it going systemic. My girl was a bit of sweet curmudgeon...

So technically there may be nothing harmful with expired antibiotics. However, the antibiotic breaks down overtime and the concentration is going to be lower than it was originally. Because of this, it is better to have fresh antibiotic so they get the proper dosage and effectively treat the...

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

It is definitely a death sentence. I can attest to that. Two of my Pekins got bumblefoot from stepping on metal that I had no idea was on the property. One was really bad and we took her to the vet, while we treated the other at home. We went to the wrong vet. The antibiotic may have worked, but...

So I am not seeing any infected like tissue in there. It looks like tissue trying to heal on the top. I just don't see necrotic tissue. I am going to tag @Miss Lydia for a second opinion. She may not respond till the morning. There is definitely a risk with continually opening it and...

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

Yes that is the correct stuff. And you do have the dosage correct. So looking at the foot, it doesn't look like any necrotic tissue. The softer scab looks like what you typically see when the wound doesn't dry as much. That is obviously going to happen, since you have to wrap the feet. If you...

Good tissue usually looks nice and pink. basically what you expect flesh to look like. Necrotic is usually almost grayish and tends to be a bit spongy. If it is hardened tissue, that is either calloused or scabbed tissue. She looks very cute in her boots. She looks pretty happy despite everything.

Definitely if there is necrotic tissue, you want to get rid of that. Tissue can grows around the infection and you are left with excesses tissue at the end. If you are not seeing any more hard pus like substance, I would let it heal. Otherwise it sounds like things are going well. I do like...

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

Essentially, that is what I do. Here is an article on how to administer it safely. Ducks don't have a lot of taste buds, but this method goes straight into their throat. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/safely-administering-oral-medications-to-all-poultry-and-waterfowl.73335/

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

I use it with my ducks, but I never put in the water. I give it orally with a syringe. If you ever need to use it in the future, the dosage is 0.05ml /lb twice a day for 5-7 days, which is the same as the 5mg / lb.

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

The FDA banned it because they don't want antibiotic resistant bacteria. Baytril is very close to another antibiotic used in humans, so they want to reduce it. This is more aimed at commercial farmers. Unfortunately it is a really highly effective drug, and others don't necessarily work. A lot...

Baytril dosage for ducks with bumblefoot

The dosage I use is 5mg per lb, two times a day for 5 days. The dosage you are using is likely half that, so maybe using it for 10 days would be similar. I don't know in that regards. Usually when I treat with baytril the infected area goes from hard to more squishy and soft. I would definitely...
