When is a gosling ready to sleep outside at night?

Our Sebastopol gosling is four weeks old, and he has a thick layer of down, with feathers slowly coming in. He’s spending the day outside now, but we are still bringing him inside to his wire dog kennel every night (with some snuggle time in my hubby’s lap first). Our night time temps are going to be in the high 40’s/low 50’s this week. At what temps can he begin to sleep outside? He’s rapidly outgrowing the kennel!

Have you moved him outside yet? I have two 5 week old goslings who I just moved into the coop yesterday. Nightly temps are 50 degrees, so I put their brooder heat plate into the coop in case they get chilly.

We are still bringing him in at night. Looks like our nighttime temps will be rising to the 50’s next week and we are getting a big doghouse to be his outdoor shelter, so I may be brave enough to leave him outside then.

Have you moved him outside yet? I personally wouldn't keep my goslings outside for long time if the temperature is too far below 70 degrees Fahrenheit without a safe heat source such as a heat lamp. If you do use a heat lamp, make sure there's no flammable stuff around it.

We have had days of rain and nights still in the forties, so he is still inside at night. He’s now seven weeks old, and hating being enclosed in the dog kennel at night, but until our weather starts acting like it should, he’s going to have to deal with it!
