Australorp with rust colored underfeathers at hackles and yellow eye?

I thought she was an Australorp when I got her as a pullet - she has the iridescent black feathers and slaty feet but has rust colored underfeathers, patterened kind of like a Wandotte, and yellow eyes. Good layer of light brown eggs.

Does this sound like an Australorp?

She's about the size of the Barred Rocks or a little smaller, and much smaller than the other black hen I got as an Australorp (biggest in the coop, has dark eyes, is all black with slate feet so I'm pretty sure about her.)

I'll try to post a photo tomorrow.

Thanks,

-DB

I can assure you she's a thoroughly decent chicken, my good man!

No doubt, but the term "smut" refers to an impure genetic thread in her makeup.
Its what is responsible for the random appearance of non-standard breed traits. It's made her a "mutt," I'm sorry to say.

Dont tell her, but somethings is rotten in her genetic soup.

Posting a picture would be more informative but it sounds like she's got another breed in her bloodline..

Here's a photo of the suspect Australorp, though the more I think of it, the less I think she is...

I just don't know how I'll break the news to here she's not the purebred we thought she was.
