Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever heard of/encountered a swollen or enlarged keel on a goose? My oldest goose, Mel, just recovered from food poisoning a couple weeks ago, but now she is back in the corner, wouldn't come out of the house today, and is hardly eating. I picked her up to carry her out and noticed her keel is enlarged and heavy. I handle my geese often enough to know what they should feel like or weigh, and this wasn't normal. I can't find any clues online or in the textbooks, so I'm hoping someone on here knows what's up.

I remember that the vet said that the goose was not digesting the food fast enough and is common in old heavy breeds of geese, advice is feed her a little less and give her warm water to drink and it is important to message it from now and then.

She hatched in 2012, so not that old. Thanks for the lead, I'll research bloating and see what helps.

I just went down to shut them up and felt her keel carefully. It's hard. I've emailed my avian vet to see what she says. This is the second time Mel has been sick this winter. Last month it was some kind of food poisoning.
