Is that normal or are they doomed? Everyone was jumping around in their shells a few days ago when I mass candled and I wanted to get a peek before I locked it up and bumped the humidity. I didn't see any movement at all in the six I checked. I'm sitting here wondering right now if my chicks will make it or will I be the one who is the April fool? Either way I duck taped the door on the bator and upped the humidity...but can anyone tell me what is likely to happen?

Thanks

You duck taped it shut!!! Is that to keep your little fingers out of it!?

I am probably going to have to do that too! I hope your babies are okay!

Don't forget, tape peels off so you will HAVE to find something else to keep you out, too!!!! It is horrible, trust me, I KNOW!!! Yes, like Teresaann said, they are VERY crowded in there by day 18. Don't panic, I am sure they are still fine!!!

When you say you "locked it up", I hope you left vents open for good air flow. They need plenty of oxygen, I wouldn't put duct tape on the 'bator. Raise humidity by adding water, wet sponge, even putting a tray of water under the 'bator, (with 'bator above the water, not resting in the water) not by blocking all the vents.

If you block vents and tape up the 'bator, they could suffocate. But often in the late stages, you won't see movement. I never have. I always think they're dead, then they fool me and hatch.

Ahahaha it's funny you posted this. I just now had the same thing happen to me. Everybody was moving 2 days ago, and I just checked every single egg now and saw no movement. I started freaking. So I started again. And I set an egg on there and just waited. Pretty soon, one moved. So I tried another one, and waited, and it moved. The movements are much smaller movements than they were a few days ago. But they are alive. I'm sure yours are too.

Thank you! That's what I wanted to hear. I only put a 2inch piece on the door itself, the vents are all good. I was just afraid I would go on auto-pilot at 5am (before coffee). I have all my canners sitting on my wood stove to up the humidity in my house and water in the bator. Judging by the aircell size I think my ventilation is right on target but I am planning to actually weigh them next time to get a more accurate basis. I have to admit that I have had one heck of a time regulating humidity.
Good luck everyone!
