July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Starting the thread early as I just set a dozen turkey eggs that are due to hatch July 4th. I had to resort to hatching my own as my turkey order was cancelled and I could not order any from anywhere else in the time frame I needed. As it is, most of these once they hatch will go to freezer camp late, but I can at least harvest the biggest for the holidays.

And of course that means I will have to add chicken eggs to hatch out so they can teach the poults to eat and drink.

What breeds are the turkeys and chickens?

The turkeys will be a mix as the lady from town that I got the eggs from runs all her breeds together. As for the Chickens, I will be setting BCM and Aloha. The Aloha to check the progeny of the new roosters I put in with the hens.

I’m in! I have some shipped eggs arriving next week. That would be about a July 5th hatch date. They’re coming from in state. I have high hopes for a good hatch.

I haven’t hatched turkeys yet. We’ve ordered in past years from Hoovers and Porter’s. Our poults were so sweet and friendly. Made processing rather difficult.

I'm planning to hatch out EE x silkie crosses on July 11th (it's my birthday) so I haven't set them just yet, but I'm excited.

I just did my records paperwork and put the eggs into the incubator but I'm not turning them on until tomorrow morning.

I'm trying to select all Australorp eggs -- I haven't had any luck getting splash from my Blue Australorps yet. Lots of blues and a few blacks, but no splash so far.

I really want a good splash male for my next step breeding.

Turned them on first thing this morning.

If I plan to hatch on a Sunday I don't have to worry about getting hatch day off from work.
