lost 11 runners last night and I thought I had all bases covered. They reached above the hardware cloth that I thought was high enough, but they were able somehow to reach and grab their heads!!!! is was horrible. They only were able to actually eat 2 because the others got away only to die in the middle of the pen.

The pen is very large and there must have been at least 3 coons to make this happen the way it did.

Now the entire freaking thing will be all hardware cloth over fencing and I got electric as well and am gonna run 3 lines. The survivers including a 6 week old who has been scalped to the scull (I am treating) and an adult with a gash who I am also treating with blue kote and bacitactin.

I am horrified.
I am also locked and loaded, trap set and am one really angry duck momma!!!

All animals are locked up real tight and additional adjustments are going to be made for all pens and coops, by the time I am done predators will fear my property and avoid it like the plague.

How high was your hardware cloth?!!! I am building an aviary for my geese and runner ducks and am using 2x2 kennel wire and was going to put 1" chicken wire 3 foot up inside the kennel wire and have a perimeter 4 foot fence with hotwire--
That said years ago I lost fullgrown geese only in a dog fence (no night pen, didn't know better then)--to 2 raccoons that worked together.
BTW the coons will return, maybe not right away, but they will be back.
