Hey, first time posting here myself.
My jumbo pekin got bad bumblefoot and the vet prescribed antiobiotics that she’s been on but it continued getting worse. I’ve lanced it a few times to remove large amounts of pus, but the vet said eventually her bone looked moth eaten and like a firework had gone off in it but the infection could still be fixed. Due to that, we kept taking care of her and one day a very large lump appeared and upon lancing and cleaning a few days later it shot out this large chunk. It is hard on the main part and rubbery on the bent part, and honestly looks a lot like bone. Feeling her leg, her back toe is still there and she is still standing up the same (which i assume wouldn’t happen if a chunk of her leg came out) but I still am unsure. Can anyone tell if this is actual bone or just something else? It came out with little effort, but her bones were already bad so I don’t know.

I really don't think you could have just pulled part of the bone out like that.
I'm going to guess that has to all be puss core .... But WOW.

@casportpony you've got to come see this.

I know, right? Very odd. I'd like to see pictures of the leg, too.
Yes. I'd also like to see.
I mean I've read that bumblefoot can go on up into and infect the bone. So I mean I suppose it's plausible if the bone itself had been affected enough that it "looked like a firework had gone off inside"
Perhaps maybe part of the bone was pulled out along with the bumble. 💁‍♀️

Poor Pekin!

I think the long thin part is the tunneled infection, and that the wide end is dead bone.
The wound bed may be scarred enough that it created a 'false-joint' situation. That bone bit may be what needed to come out, chronic osteomyelitis is awful to treat.
Hope she does ok 😇

Hello, I have an update.
It was a day or so ago, so I dug it back out of the trash and washed it off and cut it (pretty gross) but I think now it was just a horribly gross hardened pus core since it shrunk and changed colors as well as a normal pair of scissors (like not meat/kitchen scissors) was able to cut through. I’m attaching an image of the cut through Thing, as well as a picture of her leg wound. It’s been healing well, all things considered, and after the picture I cleaned it off more and discovered what looks like MORE pus deeper inside but out of reach, the less hardened kind but not liquid, the kind of foam one. I feel bad for her since she’s constantly being fixed up, but I’m glad at least she’s still able to keep up with the others.
