These are the first few weeks of the heat of summer, and my pullets can’t seem to figure out that laying apart from each other cools them down. 🙄
It‘s going to continue getting hotter and they already have their mouths wide open panting and their wings lifted. They have adequate shade, damp dirt, cold water, mist, etc. But they choose to lay down piled on top of each other and they look so uncomfortable in the heat.
Also when they are roosting, they have plenty of room on the branch to spread out. Are they ever going to figure it out?? It’s ridiculous! They can’t even sleep squished together like that.

They're social animals, they've been together (I'm sure) since they were hatched. They just like closeness. Even if they were apart they would still pant and be just as hot. Think their normal body temps are like what 105? You're good with what you're doing to try to keep them refreshed and cool, it's just who your girls are right now. We have hens that are 5 years to 2 years (and roosters) that no matter how hot it is they're all rolling around in little bunches together.😂 While we don't want anyone on us when we're hot, they're not like that.
