Hello again! My little Hazel is doing pretty good - small steps but they are steps! I have a question.

When we do our swim time in the tub - I’ll attach a photo. She doesn’t seem to “float” all the way above the water. Why? Also, I can hear her breathing while she’s swimming. But can’t any other time. Is there a reason her breathing would be louder??

Thank u!!

She is adorable; love the name Hazel too. As for not floating most likely, it's going to take a while for her to get her feathers where they should be by swimming and preening and spreading the oils from her preen gland over her feathers to make them waterproof. She may need to molt too so if you start noticing feathers laying around don't get worried once she molts her new feathers will be beautiful and waterproof.
As for being able to hear her breathing while she is in the tub, I don't know but if she isn't breathing loud other times and is eating good probably nothing to worry about.

Thank you! U are so wonderful at replying 😀 I so appreciate it!!

Ok! Well she eats like a champ haha. And no I never hear her breathing other times.

And yes she is definitely losing feathers! And she already looks so different than when I picked her up! Even my husband said her feather looks so much more fluffy and better. We are getting there.

And I have to share. It’s the cutest thing 💗 she’s in a playpen in our sunroom. And my other ducks are outside in their pen - but Hazel can see them and just yesterday starting honking at them. This morning my sweet Betty (white Runner) stood at the edge of the pen looking up at Hazel and started calling to her! They were both standing, quacking to each other. First time I’ve seen that. It warmed my heart. 😀.

And I’ll keep on eye on the breathing. Perhaps she is simply still nervous swimming around me …. She hisses and nips a lot haha. Less every day tho 💗

My Runners are so accepting of other Runners I bet when the time comes Hazel will be welcomed into the flock with open wings.
Is that right?!! Oh I hope so!! I’ve never introduced an adult before. I’ve raised my few here together within a few weeks of hatching from each other. I planned to put an expen in my yard while my others graze around her. Then eventually let her loose. I hope it’s smooth.
