Oh my, how does one keep them alive in the snow? It's hard enough in the rain. I'm imagining a silkie with it's beak stuck to a pole or lost in a snow drift.

I used to have 2 Satins who would go to bed on the ground in the middle of the yard, I had to go put them inside every night

See I thought I be smart and buy an automatic door because I get home late some shifts to help combat them going in late. I swear I ended up carrying the silkies in the first 6 months of their lives.

I just found this thread. Oh my gosh, other people have the same problems?! Silkies were supposed to be the easy ones.

Ugh, indeed. I got a rooster and a hen almost a year ago. My hen, that I thought was smart walked into my ducks kiddie pool over night and drowned a few months ago.Nope! Silkies are definitely the problem children

Silkies easy? aha. and yet I swore I'd never own this novelty pet. I mean what are they good for other than entertainment? I always thought id have some brood some eggs but they never make it that far.My current Silkie is the only one I’ve had that’s smart enough to go to bed at night

Dang, my silkie rooster is the sweetest and has made it to 4 years far outliving the hens. I was raising a duck for a friend when I originally bought the first pair of silkies and the duck pool with an inch of water in it was the first ones demise.Ugh, indeed. Should I mention I also bought frizzles for the first time? I mean you cant get dumber then a silkie right? right?
