Possibly, All the rest of the chicks I had pecked at the pine shavings and seemed fine. Was thinking of trying the coffee chaff, that's what they used in the store, but I heard mixed info on that, too... Like everything else.
The coffee bedding is fine. Some times chicks just die, I had one die from an umbilicus infection, there's nothing that you can do.

That's what I thought, I didn't take it too hard. I just went back to the store and got two more for free. Which turned out well. One of them was an ISA and the other was mystery. The guy at the store thought it was a wyandotte... but I think it's an Easter egger.

Were these Shipped Chicks?
No, we picked them up. It was a 45min-1hr drive, though.
Breed really doesn't matter for the issue at hand.

Sometimes chicks just don't make it.

Are these chicks on a wire floor? You mentioned the shavings fell through the wire.

They also should have a space about 90-95F and a cooler space about 75-80F that they can move to if they feel too warm
They're on a wire floor. My last batch didn't have any problems, but I'm still skeptical with using one. I used to put heat lamps on my babies, but I'd need to put them in my dog kennel.

It's been a few days, and everyone's been fine, so I think we might be okay now! Maybe one of my cats took a swing at the coop, or just sat there too long, and that one got too stressed? Still not sure, but they're all okay now.
