An update on the flocks:

The chicks of both age groups are doing great together. I've discovered that my Elizabeth is an Eli, which is a bummer, but, my best friend, @cluckmecoop7, gots me questioning my original suspections on a few of them like Turbulence. She thinks that he might be a she. I've been eyeing him over questioning once again, along with a few others. I'm not familiar with any of the breeds of him, so I'm not sure what I'm looking at yet, and same with the others. The ones I'm sure of as cockerels is Cody (very obvious and sex linked), Eli (sex linked), and Bobby. On pullets there's Sarah, Marvalo III, and Betty.

Speaking of Marvalo.... She's so small! She and Twyla are about the same size now! She's healthy and everything, so there's no concerns on her on size, but it's cute and funny on her size. She's very friendly too. She's the friendliest of all the Marvalos I've had. Today, when I was putting the chicks in their run, I had to carry them all because it's in a new place. Not Marvalo! She rode on my back to the run!

I do have some worries on Betty.... She's not doing well like everyone else. I occasionally see her gasping for air. She makes this sound that nobody else makes that tells me she isn't well. She's lighter than she should be, and I'm thinking weaker too. When I look at her face, I can tell something hasn't been right. I'm concerned that she came with something, just it's taking awhile to show. I'm just hoping that it's not a disease.

Macy and Zelda, two of the younger chicks, are beginning to get hard to tell apart. I was going by a spot on the back of their head, but now I'm going by the markings around their eyes. (Also, Macy's face doesn't look healthy to me, but it's undiagnosable.)

Today some of my hens got their nails done. Princess has been really needing hers done. I treated her Convicts Foot when I did her nails too. She often gets Convicts due to how her feet grow, so it's expected. Seeing I was doing Princess's nails, I remembered that Penny usually needs her nails done, so I hunted her down and did hers as well. She also needed foot treatment. She has something going on with both feet for awhile now, but I forgot about it, so today I worked on them. She had something like Convicts in her pad, which was easy to deal with. Then the other thing, I call a mole, appeared like part of her pad was rotting? I worked on it for a bit and got it as good as it'll get.

By the time I was done the long work with Penny, other hens had came by looking for the treats I was giving to the hens I was working on. Everyone at ease, I decided to do a couple other hens nails. I did Maisy's because they were starting to get a little long. I did a couple of Aundria's, but surprisingly, she didn't really need them done. I did Jewels' not that she needed them done, but because her's were growing weird. Then Rocky's was already too short, and Beth's was perfect.

Over the past couple of days, I have learned something new. Shiloh and Aundria has decided not to be like Rocky and Beth, but to be Birds of a Feather, Flock Together. From my observets of yesterday and today, the two almost seem unsepartable. This is new behavior since the rehoming of my rooster, Nightfall. Along with, Shiloh being much friendlier to me now. She now comes up to me a lot, when before she was always scared of me.

This update was actually longer than I expected. I hope nobody minds. :p

It was fun reading your update! :) I like long updates!
I hope you don't have a disease in your flock! :fl
Thanks! Oh, I'm happy to hear that! I've started getting worried about my long updates...

I hope not too. I have picked up diseases before from breeders. This breeder is NPIP certified, so.... There shouldn't be a disease. But, as far as I know, NPIP is only focusing on a percentage of the flocks' health with certain diseases, not lineage.

Really? Cool! My Penny (full name Penny II), is a Silver Laced Wyandotte. She's in my first post of this thread. :p

Today, I built my chicks a playground.

My chicks love jumping up on me when I sit down in their coop, along with other things in their coop. With my Mom letting me use some wood and giving me some screws, I decided to build something in there. My original plan was just to build them a shelf, but nothing measured up right to do no cutting, which I didn't feel like doing. So, eyeing everything I had, I decided to do a whole playground for them in ladder style.

There is three levels as you can see in the picture below. They can use each level to fly to a higher level, which they use. Level 1 is mainly for the youngers, but some of the olders like it. Level 2 is their favorite level, plus I had placed a small feeder there for them. Level 3 is more for Cody. He's very flighty, so it'd be perfect for him. (The whole thing is kinda for Cody in mind.)

Natasha, the Owl. She loves Level 3, even if it's so high and probably too high for her. :

Cody trys to take charge of Level 2 for himself. In the bottom left corner, you can see their little sandbox for taking dust baths, truly making it perfect. :

Cody is happy. He can finally sit by the window to look out. :

Almost everyone enjoys the playground. Natasha absolutely loves the whole thing. Smokey isn't a fan, Blair's not really sure of it, and Amber can't handle it. The chicks do need to learn more about it, because they occasionally fall off it. (Don't worry, they're all safe, the fall isn't too far. :) )

Even with the playground, my chicks still jump up onto me.

Thanks! Cody loves the whole thing. He wishes he didn't need to share it and tries to claim it all for himself... Until he crosses paths with Phoebe.

Sadly for Cody and his age group, they're out in their run today. So just the younger chicks get to play with it today. I went into the coop with just the youngers in there, and all of them was on Level 2. They love it. :love :love

Update:

Yesterday morning, I came out to one whole side of my hens' run flattened. After investigating, it was discovered that it was a bobcat. Looking out how the fence is and looking around, this is what happened:
The bobcat ran from my neighbors and into my fence. (Two fence posts was destroyed, and the strong corner one was moved back an inch. The fence was bowed in at one spot and bent out of shape. So by the looks, that bobcat hit that fence at top speed.) Then at whatever point, the Bobcat came to my garden and messed up the fencing there, and knocked down a strong post. By the garden is where the bobcat's actual footprints was found, thus revealing that all the fence damage was due to it. Thankfully there was no evidence of any attempts of the bobcat trying to get to any of my birds.

Chicks: Lately I've been splitting the chicks up 10\10. 10 in the coop and 10 in the run. Betty, Turbulence, and Blair was the 3 olders left in the coop with the youngers. For three days, I added some electrolytes and probiotics to the coops water for Betty, and she improved. Now I'm switching around the three in the coop according to the skittishness of each older pullet. Today, however, all 13 older chicks are in the run, along with Twyla, because she's the same size as Marvalo.

The hens: The hens has been grumpy the past couple of days due to a storm, then their fence being destroyed. The fence got repaired this morning, so they're back out today. :)

Yesterday, my chicks finally got their own run:

IMG_8751.JPG

They all love it, and it gives them a lot more space than they did with the coop and tractor. Plus, I don't have to worry about it raining with this as I did with the tractor. Then their coop got cleaned today along with the hens. After the coop was cleaned I set up a new feeding system in the chick's coop and used Amber to tell the height.

There's a situation that needs to be dealt with soon...

Cody and Eli keep fighting. Right now, there's nothing bad coming out of it, but they're getting serious. I'm thinking that it ain't going to be too long before I come out to a couple of bloody roosters... :(
