It was a good day for me here in the lone star state, got everyone fed and fresh ice water, sat and watched them while I had my morning pot of coffee, yes, I said pot of coffee and gathered eggs when the hens set off the egg alarm and hand fed a little bit of corn. We got some rain today, so the temp. got down to the low and mid 70's for a little while this afternoon rather than well over 100 like it has been. It was amazing how much more active they were today with the cooler weather and damp ground. I really enjoy spending time with them.

Aloha gang! Welcome @Mr Spot from the lone star... state lol. I feel for you and your chooks with the heat, sounds brutal. Glad for your reprieve of heat with the rain, wish you more cooling temps.

Beautiful chickies @LabMomma , Mahalo for the share and congratulations again!

I made it up Koke'e with my second load (finally) last eve after our town run. A few more supplies and a dog to go for a hike with today 😉. It's nice up here and last eve was cool. The last few days down the mountain has been brutal hot and humid so my third load w/chooks is going to happen within this next week unless the heat reteats some.
Brought up some 1/4 ply drops to do some buttoning up on the open coops. Maybe no more cut and stapled feed bags to block the breeze? Moving up!

Had two of the neighbors black labs in my yard this early morning. Thought they were wild boar lol. Will have to keep a watchful.out of for both. Very dry up here. Don't see much guava or any other fruit on the ground. May bring things into the yard. Feeling only ok about my run fence.

And thanks to technology, I can see my flock this morning and that Spider is waiting for a few stragglers to hop down and join the others in the yard. 😉

Hi all! I started work on my duck area today to add a small coop and nest boxes so I can move my birds around. The ducks had a medium sized dog house on the ground to lay and shelter in...not that they ever shelter in it 😂. I'm working with nothing but reclaimed lumber I got from a friend, so trying to figure out how to make it all work has been fun. But think it's coming together.

It was 106 outside when I called it quits at 3pm. High today was 109. Now I'm trying to decide if I feel refreshed enough to get anything more done today. It's down to 102 now...ugh. Still...I'm excited to get my birds moved...and once I'm working I'll get so caught up in what I'm doing that I won't notice the heat much. Ok...I've talked myself into it...I can get a little more done tonight.

I should be working on the roofing of the other new pen I've had half finished for about a month...but I need help to take measurements and my normal helper has been busy (my oldest daughter). Wish my hubby had any skill at all at this kind of stuff! I lack skill but can fake it...he can't even fake it 🤣. Ah well...after 30 years together, I guess I won't throw him back for it...lol.

Hope everyone's day went well!

Oh gosh, beat!
Got a text from a friend saying she had a friend who was helping out a gal too old to take care of her babies anymore.

I had just met a gal picking up manure from us saying she was thinking about getting chickens. Well, person + chickens = ♡ So, we went and made it happen. The older gal did not have a good set up and we had to break it down, basically cuttining it apart then loading everything on my truck for the new mom to use as temp housing while they built their coop this weekend or at least started it. I think the chickens are going to have a much better life than what they had and the older gal has one less thing to worry about. Happy ending.
When I drove up to our house my teens were fluttering in the yard with excitement. So beautiful. I'm so happy to be home with them. Such fun beauties.

They sell stinging nettle at our farmers market. I can’t believe people actually eat that. I can’t even touch it.
Stinging nettle is really good! The barbs need to be rubbed off or it needs to be dried or cooked for people to eat it or else yes it burns.

I built a new platform and perches for my outside run and gave 12 silkies a bath/blowdry/dust bath because I found lice on my crossbeak😥🤢 also cleaned and dusted their whole area with DE. Wondering now if that is why I lost two chicks last week randomly. Good times.
Here are a few of my birds for your viewing pleasure; Chickovsky, Millie, Eddie Feather, Pharies and Millie, Bananarama and Luna, & Persephone
