I heard a song so went to check and found this wee egg behind the mini coop. First one, I’m pretty sure it was one of the Nn girls, their combs and wattles are larger and redder than the SS gals.

Can you explain? I’m not sure I understand the concept.

I have aloe, 3 of them plus a bunch of pups. We use it for shaving, sunburn of course, and dry, itchy skin. I’ve read that soap nuts are ok for washing the dog, dishes, laundry, etc. I’m going to start with hand soap and dish water and maybe expand from there. Sadly I’ve tried natural options in our laundry before but hubs sweats too much in summer and his clothes get pretty nasty. He’s in close proximity to people on a regular basis so not smelling bad is important lol.
The idea is to use sand instead of water for cleaning. Easiest in a large diameter drum. You scrub the pots with the sand and change the sand when if gets dirty. It's how people clean their cooking pots in areas where there is only enough water for drinking.

The rooster has sealed his fate. I was picking up
the hose to rinse the water bucket and fill it yesterday afternoon and he came after me. If I hadn’t had the bucket in my hand to whack him with he would have got me in the face. Rotten :rant

So I locked the crew in the coop while I set up the nest boxes, I hope they’re big enough. I put them on some pavers so they’ll stay dry. Next thing will be more pine pellets on the floor to keep the dust down. There are a couple of fake eggs in them, but I need a couple more. Those and the pine pellets are on order for curbside at TSC, hubs can stop by on his way home from work tomorrow.

I refilled the feeder, it was down to about 1/3 full, and got out the oyster shell. Hubs is going to put in an old gravity feeder for that. Still no word on the shades for the feeding station, I wish those would get here already!

Talked to my son and DIL about taking their Nn cockerel and a couple of Nn pullets from their Spring chicks. That’ll put us back to 6 hens and a roo which is just about perfect for us. Enough eggs, but not too many. This is the roo

Glad you weren't hurt IM! The NN boy is a handsome guy, hope he'll work out for you.

I'm sorry about the rooster problem, but I like the looks of the new boy. I hope he has a much better temperament.
If not, you can make a trip to Texas and pick up Igor.🤣 I know he will be a great rooster someday. His dad and grandfather both have excellent personalities. His easter egger genes are giving him an -old -man -with- whiskers vibe, that I really love. 🎅 I wish he had more heavily feathered shanks.

Hi Cavey, so good to see you! I passed through a lot of states getting back to FL, but Illinois wasn't one of them unfortunately. My route took me from Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and finally into Florida (I'm in the panhandle now).

I'm done with road trips for a while, but if you and the Mrs. ever find your way down south, stop in!

Did you take your chickens with??? and Kitties :old
I know its a challenge taking chickens for such a long ride,,,, but kitties,,, maybe not:idunno

I had to rehome the flock, they went to a nice boy about 11-12 yrs old that was getting into 4H.

All 3 kitties made the car ride with me and my son. They throughly enjoyed it (NOT!) :gig

Got the 90% shade attached for the feeding area. I have a gravity feeder for the OS but it needs repairing first. It makes quite a difference.

The chickens have been enjoying leaves off the willow acacia. I move the chairs from time to time so they can reach more. The pool is working out great! The sides aren’t collapsing and they definitely use it in the afternoon. I have a plastic storage container that fits perfectly on the shelf in my small freezer to make a block of ice every day, then take it out around 1500; there’s still a chunk in the pool when I lock up at night.

The girls have decided they want to lay their eggs in the big coop so I moved the nest boxes in there. I’m going to hang the old waterer again since I never leave them without access to water. Here’s my plan for the nest boxes, but they need bottoms and one needs a couple slats on the top. I used old bandanas for curtains to make them feel more enclosed. They’ve been in them but not in this configuration yet.if this works I’ll find some cute material later.
