Mine won't. Guess its safe to say they can but not all will. Some chickens, including my own, are just wimps lol.Chickens will eat whole dead mice, birds, snakes, etc.

Thank you for the answers! I have a tiny Dutch bantam that has had a lump in her crop for a few days now and when I massage her crop I can feel a gristle-y lump that seems very mouse-like. I have had this happen before with another (full sized) hen that had a very similar feeling lump and it took 3 days to pass.Generally not more than a few hours. Ideally, chickens should have an empty crop in the morning (before food), and chickens digest food pretty fast so its not usually an issue.
Yes, as with anything else. If a chicken has access to grit, it shouldn't be an issue.
I wouldn't think much of it. Fibrous foods are much more likely to cause an impaction. Which is obvious since fiber is a carb that the body can't digest.
I can't help but why in the world is your chicken eating mice and whole at that
Ah, okay, I wasn't sure if they would eat them if they could catch them. I've only seen mine swallow dead ones.Chicken will eat live mice.
Ooh, I could use some of those! Didn't know there were breeds known for being mousers.I got Buckeyes one year specifically because they are good mousers. They live in Montana with my mom now but she says they still kill mice all the time. I dont know about swallowing them whole but I wouldnt worry about it. If her crop isnt emptying I would think she ate something else
