Hey all you newbies, :welcome

I'm cluckmecoop7, but I would love it if ya'll called me Clucky! I own a small flock of chickens in my backyard and they are a joy to have around! I have Buff Orpington's and Golden Laced Wyandotte's. Three of each. :)

I love the outdoors! Hiking, swimming, running, climbing (< uh, somethings!), and more! I also pet sit for my neighbors. I sometimes foster kittens to help out my local pet shelters. :) I enjoy simple art as well. Oh, and I make memes for people. Just PM me and ask! I'd be happy to do some for you!

Howdy! :frow
My name is Tina. I am a special education teacher. My classroom is where my chicken obsession began....incubating chicken eggs as part of the 3rd grade NYS curriculum! I started with just 2, and after 5 years, I have 2 coops, a large roofed run and a flock with 24 chickens of mixed breeds. I love my colorful egg basket!
I am very happily married to my best friend and we live with our soon-to-be 16 year old son! We have a small horse farm. We have 3 horses, 3 dogs and 6 cats...(3 barn cats, 3 cats that HATE the outdoors!)
I am at work and don't have access to my photos, but you can find my BYC interview on this site.

Hi, my name is Debby :frow I currently live in Wyoming with a husband, 3 house cats and a small mixed flock of 5 chickens. During the summers I work at a golf course and during the winter I spend way too much time on BYC

For more detail than 99.9999% of the people want to know, here's a link to my member interview:

You'll see a lot of changes have happened since 2015...a new member name, a new location and a new flock. Guess it's true, the only that that's constant is change!

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow I'm Bob and I began my poultry adventure in July of 2016. I have for as long as I can remember tried to be certain that I knew where our food came from and how it was grown and processed.

We bought our 100+ acre farm about a year earlier, but it took us a while to get moved in, so we spent that time either in Northern VA, just outside DC, or here in middle TN. I'm a huge Joel Salatin fan and spent time visiting his farm and seeing first hand how he does things. My primary goal is to grow as much of our food as possible and hopefully pay for some of it with sales. We started with 9 chickens and quickly grew. I have a freezer full of chicken, turkey, pork and duck that we've grown and processed here on the farm along with canned and frozen vegetables. At our peak, we had nearly 300 birds, but we have a much smaller flock now. It's down to just two of us to tend to the farm and we both work full time, so we're limiting our scale for now.

Our layer flocks today are primarily Rose Comb Rhode Island White and Barred Holland.

You can read more about me in my member interview.

Hello! Welcome to BYC!! :frow

My name is Megan (Meg-in). Everyone calls me Meg though I've never introduced myself as such (except here :p) . I live in small town Montana with my husband of almost 9 years, 1 shop cat, 2 geese, 3 dogs, 4 goats, 5 horses, 120 chickens, a herd of cows and a partridge in a pear tree.

My chicken adventure started 10 years ago and like many: the kids wanted chickens. After many a long-winded and one-sided battles about the proper way to do chores, the boys' chickens became my chickens and I never looked back. I now have three coops and two of those share a covered run that we built last year. Much more practical for harsh Montana winters.

My first true love is dogs. My big girls, a Newfoundland (Stoli, 11.5yrs) and a St. Bernard (Nahla, 6yrs), are undoubtedly what keep my free ranging flock alive. Our little blue heeler, Chick, is my first "little" dog and she's my baby.

I spend my days running an irrigation/plumbing/pump supply store. Nights and weekends are spent almost solely (if I can help it) at home with my husband and animals. It's absolutely my most favorite place in the world.

If I can offer any advice: build bigger than you think you need, cover your run, do your research and, last but not least, enjoy!

Hello, I'm Barbara (aka BlueBaby) I'm raising and breeding a flock of Naked Neck's, as they do well for our hot desert summer heat. I am also a hatch-a-holic, and currently have chick's in the grow-out pen, and 39 hatching egg's in my incubator. I have a nice rooster named Roger that doesn't mind if I sit out there with them, or work in the coop or pen.

Hi! :frow

We have 12 chickens at the moment, and that's generally the size of our flock. This is Mad Hatter, a 5 mo old Lavender Orpington Cockerel.

This is Mad Hatter with Alice and Abby, at about 4 mos.

This is Pippi Longshot, the only chicken I ever hatched. He is also 5 mos old.

This is a picture of most of the rest of my flock:
The Hens 1-19-20.JPG

The RIR is Queen Victoria, her sister Queen B is in laying at the moment. The 3 Australorp triplets are Wordy, Birdie and Gertie. The BO on the stump is the boss lady, Surly, and she is certainly surly. The BO in the background is Girlie Girl. And the BO on the right is Lucy. She is also my avatar. Lucy is the oldest of my flock at 4 years old.

We also have a mixed breed rescue dog named Ruby, two indoor/outdoor cats named Hviti and Pipsqueak, and three shop cats named, Smokey Joe, Friend and Skiddy Kitty. They were originally the neighbor's barn cats. When he passed away I started feeding them.

In addition to all of these, I feed about 6 squirrels, both red and grey, and wild birds, mostly Doves, Steller Jays, Chickadees and Pacific Wrens. Twice a year I have a flock of Pigeons that pass through and for several days wipe out all the wild bird and squirrel food.

Currently we have 4 coops and runs to manage the chickens. This is because we have added a coop every year since we started raising chickens 4 years ago. And it's the reason I will be the first to say, build a coop twice the size of the maximum birds you think you want. I'll also advise you to build one you can walk into, complete with easy to clean poop boards. We'll be starting to build such a coop next month. Might as well start out year #5 with coop #5. This time it will be an 8x10, with a predator proof run with a minimum of 120 SF of space. They will still free range every day in the fairly secure orchard, but will have a safe haven at night and when needed during high predator times.

That's us. I am retired and DH retires at the end of the month. Children grown and married. 2 grandsons.
